Montarfoni hamlet

Il Borgo di Montarfoni is a rural complex in the town of Civitella in Val di Chiana (AR), 400 meters above sea level, overlooking the Valdarno , the Casentino and the Val di Chiana area. Its origins date back to Etruscan times and still today preserves ancient remains of walls as well as a Roman road. At the beginning of the 20th century there was a primary school, a food shop and, being a real town, even the polling stations were set up (even today the signs are visible on the stones of the old mill wall). Until the middle of the last century the village was inhabited by many families who cultivated the surrounding lands producing oil and wine of great quality.
